In 1935, an advertisement for Goodrich tires captured attention with rare elegance. Against a deep white background, two female figures stood side by side, symbolizing the two versions of the tire: whitewall and blackwall. On the left, a woman in a very elegant hat embodied the whitewall tire. Her face radiated confidence and sophistication, her delicate gloves adding a touch of refinement. She represented modernity and clarity, a bold choice for style-conscious drivers. On the right, another woman, fully veiled personified the blackwall tire. Mysterious and discreet, she evoked robustness and sobriety, a safe choice for those who preferred discretion and power. This advertisement, with its striking contrast between light and shadow, elegance and mystery, told a story of choice and identity. Goodrich thus offered its customers not only tires, but also a way to define themselves on the road. Credit : Drawing Copyright @ René Bleuer |
